The university provides BS and BSc degrees in various fields, including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Business Administration.
HISTORY
To address the shortage of skilled manpower at the National Fertilizer Corporation, particularly for the chemical process industry, a Training Center was established in 1985 with technical assistance from M/s. COSMO International Co., Ltd., Japan. The Center was created to provide training for engineers, supervisors, operators, technicians, and other administrative staff through modern, multi-dimensional programs. These programs were designed with an up-to-date and comprehensive structure, offering flexibility in content and duration to cover all aspects of process and engineering.
The training program was later upgraded to align with the education policy set by the Government of Pakistan. With approval from the Ministry of Industries & Production, Government of Pakistan, NFC expanded its training center in 1994 by introducing graduate engineering classes in Chemical Engineering, renaming it the “NFC Institute of Engineering & Technological Training.” Continuing its progress, the institute introduced two additional programs—Electronics Engineering and Computer System Engineering—in 2001. Later, a four-year BS program in Computer Science was launched in 2008, followed by a four-year BS program in Environmental Sciences in 2011.
Subsequently, degree programs were introduced at NFC IET under the administration of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, and the accreditation of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
As a result, NFC IET was granted the status of a Federal Degree-Awarding Institute in 2012, and Prof. Dr. Malik Akhtar Ali Kalrou was appointed as its first Vice Chancellor. Since then, NFC IET has continuously introduced new programs. In 2013, programs in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Architecture Design were launched. Additionally, in 2016, NFC IET introduced research-based postgraduate programs in Chemical Process Engineering and Electrical Power Engineering.
